Saturday was a big day, my first makeup workshop in Australia! It was held at Create Or Die studio in Marrickville. It was so much fun and I am so grateful to for the wonderful team of supporters and partners that came on board to make it all happen. I can safely say the long days and short nights leading up to the day were SO worth it. The day went by so quickly so I was extra excited about the photos and I can't wait to see the video, once it's edited as well.

All guests were so lovely and curious. I was blown away by their enthusiasm and passion for makeup. I really hope everyone took home new tips & tricks and is encouraged to try new products and techniques. I could have not hoped for a better crowd! Every time I mentioned a new topic one million more techniques and pieces of advice would come to into my head. Questions were asked and new solutions demonstrated.

I could have made this workshop last for a whole week and still would have had more to share... However I think everyone got a good taste and some insider tips during the day.

The workshop was a mix of tutorials shown on our pretty model Jessica and hands-on times, were everyone would have the time to experiment and try new techniques on their own faces. Of course there was Champagne, drinks and nibbles as well.

I love a good challenge and bringing together an event like this was definitely a good one. Thank you for all the wonderful people who contacted me already and asked for further workshops and invited me to come to their cities. As international makeup artist, I love to travel and the Sydney Makeup Workshop was a great start. I will get onto planning and we will make it happen, eventually!

The perfect Eyebrows

Marli Stretton has spent over ten years in some of the world’s most prestigious salons, looking after thousands of clients’ brows and eyelashes. Two years ago she returned to her hometown-Beautiful Sydney and launched HoneyTusk Eyebrow Studio. Located in the happening Inner West suburb of Rozelle, just ten minutes from the CBD, HoneyTusk offers our clients the perfect solution to their eyebrow woes. HoneyTusk understands that true beauty does not end with your brows, so they also provide a carefully selected menu of additional services, from eyelash extensions to selected waxing. I had the pleasure to meet Marli in person and the chance to create her makeup and hair for her wedding day. She is my go to brow artist in Sydney and on top of my referral list for my brides.

What do you love most about what you do?

I love that each day i can help change the way someone feels about themselves. When i hear my clients say they feel like they are a whole new person just from having their brows transformed that's when i know that i have made a difference in how they will feel about themselves for the rest of the day, week or month. How far in advance do you recommend for a bride to come and consult you before her wedding day?

We normally recommend 6 months before your wedding to start booking in a monthly visit to your eyebrow artist. If you are wanting to change your brow shape 6 months allows us enough time for the brows to grow out and for us to know what we are working with. For the best brows before your wedding is all about consistency, this means attending regular appointments with the same artist to achieve the same results each visit.

You recently got married yourself, what is your biggest piece of beauty advice and how did you prepare yourself for the big day?

Besides your eyebrows (of course), I think starting a regular facial routine would have to be one of the most important parts of having the best look on the big day. Having great skin can set the foundation for having great make up and having great brows. I started a intense facial routine about 3 months before my wedding and this meant that on the day i had no breakouts, no irritation and my skin felt flawless. Why is it so important to get your eyebrows in good shape?

Brows do really frame the whole face. Having your brows done correctly frames the eye area, which is the most focused facial feature we have. When your brows are done correctly, you can enhance or hide of so many aspects of your face- you can make your nose appear smaller, make your eyes appear bigger or it can help balance out the different proportions on your face. What's your favourite thing to do on a day off?

When i get a day off i love taking my dog and going for a walk or run around some of Sydney best walking tracks. Whether it be down on the Bay Run in Balmain or the Bondi to Bronte coastal walk. Anything where im out exercising in the fresh air.

Your favourite spot in Sydney?

My favorite spot at the moment in Sydney would have to be down at Blackwattle Bay. There is an amazing dog friendly park and a really cute cafe where you can sit by the water, in the sun and watch the world go by.
