I first came across Sappho via Instagram and was impressed with their all natural ingredient list, once I looked them up online.
Months later I have finally gotten my hands on some of their beautiful foundation, brushes and colours.
Sappho is an organic high end makeup brand from Canada. It's been developed by the professional makeup artist JoAnn Fowler.
These range has definitely professional use quality. All Sappho cosmetics are paraben, gluten, talc, mineral oil and dimethicone free.
Which is great news for those of you, who prefer to use silicone free products.
To find a great natural foundation is always the trickiest, so let me focus on this and tell you more about the Liquid Organic Foundation:
The Cute Packaging
The Liquid foundation comes in 8 shades covering most skin tones. The bottle is a 30ml pump bottle. It looks very luxurious almost like glass, yet it's a lightweight plastic. This is a real plus for professional artists.
(You have no idea how heavy my makeup kit is, so I prefer lightweight packaging if possible!) On the note of packaging: All the Sappho packaging is quite quirky and different, somewhat alternative and artistic looking.
All boxes are kraft paper coloured cartons with a painting illustration on it.
It's one of these products that is actually good for your skin.
Beauty comes from the inside
But looks aside, what is actually IN this foundation:
This is a mineral foundation (no talc!!!) in an organic aloe vera juice and organic jojoba oil base. If you have read my post on oils, you know that jojoba oil is non comedogenic and very good for all skin types including oily and acne prone skins. It also contains frankincense which is known for it's ability to boost collagen production. This makes this a great anti-aging foundation.
This foundation is packed with natural antioxidants and contains essential oils including organic calendula, neem oil, rockrose oil, meadowfoam oil, carrot oil, rosemary extract, lavender, roman chamomile and cedarwood.
The feel & finish
This foundation feels exceptionally light! No film, no greasiness on the skin. Yet it has lovely light reflecting properties and gives the skin a glow, in a beautiful, non shiny way.
It blends very easily, especially considering that no silicones are used to improve the texture. I prefer buffing it into the skin with the Sappho Blush brush. A super soft and very beautiful vegan brush.
It's important to shake it well before application!
The coverage is medium. If you have severe acne scarring or pigmentation you will need a concealer in addition to this foundation, smaller imperfections are covered really well.
Of course the purpose of any foundation should never be to cover up a persons skin, it should rather enhance it! This is where Sappho Liquid Foundations scores all the brownie points.
If you prefer a higher all over coverage this foundation can be applied in a second layer without problems.
It smells of natural essential oils, and while they evaporate quickly the smell is fairly prominent when you apply it.
I personally really like the smell, it's fresh, herbal and natural. I am using shade "Kate" which a nice tan/olive shade, great for me in Summer.
I was really impressed with the liquid foundation. It leaves your skin looking beautiful and like skin.
The "Undo" concealer is also tooo good to not mention it here! It works best blended together with your foundation and it immediately colour corrects and brightens dark circles.
A tiny bit goes a very long way with this.
